I always knew him as Grandpa Mike. Grandpa Mike was a very cool Grandpa. I cannot tell you the number of nights we sat by the campfire, long after most boy scouts went to sleep and talked about anything and everything, He was intelligent, fascinating and simply a great person to be around. We always made sure breakfast and a cup of hot coffee was waiting for Grandpa Mike the moment he crawled out of his tent. I am glad I got to see him just few weeks ago, when we all knew he didn’t have much time left, but even then, Grandpa was his old self, a very cool guy. I will miss him dearly.
I was lucky enough to see Mike in June, 2013, when he came back to Hastings, NE for his 50th HS reunion. We had a good time. A few months after the reunion, Mike brought his son and grandson to our house to see our collection of vintage cars near Hastings. We had another nice visit. He has a very nice family. Our prayers go out to Mike’s family. We are sorry for your loss. Kay and Roger Peters, Juniata, Ne.
It’s good to know that Mike is praying for all of us. His joyful presence in the St. Michael Choir energized me and all of our singers. His humor was both dry and loving. I remember once he called me from Ohio to tell me that he would miss choir practice that night. Now that’s dedication!Terry Starr
