Michael Denington's Obituary
Michael Riley (Mick) Denington, age 76, a resident of Bartlett TN, died Wednesday, November 11, 2015, on Veteran’s Day. Mick is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Marilyn Whedon Denington, along with his mother-in-law Mary Whedon, sister-in-law Carole Whedon Yarbrough, brother-in-law James E. (Rocky) Yarbrough, a nephew Matthew Whedon McEwen, a great niece, two great-nephews, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Riley Denington and his mother Frances Poyner Denington. Mick was a graduate of Murray State University and received a Master of Public Administration from Auburn University at Montgomery. He served twenty-four years in the United States Air Force, with a combat tour in Vietnam, and attained the rank of Colonel. His last assignment was Commander, 351st CSG (Base Commander), Whiteman AFB, MO. Mick was also a writer and in 2009 published a book of poetry Like a River. His greatest passion was passing out John 3:16 crosses while telling people about Jesus. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Memphis. Services will be held on Thursday, November 19, at Christ United Methodist Church, Memphis TN, beginning with visitation at 10:30 a.m., and an 11:30 a.m. funeral to celebrate his life. He will be interred in West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at 1:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Page Robbins Adult Daycare, 1961 S. Houston Levee Rd., Collierville, TN 38017 or Methodist Hospice Residence c/o Methodist Healthcare Foundation, 1211 Union, Memphis TN 38104. A special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Page Robbins and Methodist Hospice Residence for their loving care and daily kindnesses during the last few months of his life.
