Micajah Thomas Rainwater's Obituary
Micajah Thomas Rainwater of Memphis, TN., passed into the presence of the Lord on Nov. 4, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Lucille “Lucy” Ormon Rainwater who preceded him in death. He is survived by three daughters, Denise Lachina (Mike) of Germantown, TN; Fran Taylor (Parker) of Hot Springs Village, AR; Jan Bailey (David) of Paducah, KY; seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He also leaves lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Hugh “Bill” Bell and many treasured nieces and nephews. Thomas was born Feb. 7, 1922, and attended Idlewild Elementary and Fairview Junior High in Memphis and graduated from Ashland High School in Mississippi. He attended Holmes Junior College, then Memphis State. He was a World War II veteran, enlisting in the US Army in 1942, and served in Europe and Manilla until 1946. His medals were for Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, and Rhineland. He worked many years for Oakley Ford and later retired from Tom Bell Chevrolet. Thomas was an active member of Colonial Park United Methodist Church. He and Lucy began each day reading devotionals and singing worship songs. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Cloyd Augustus and Dollie Adelia (Thomas) Rainwater; his beloved brother, Roy A. Rainwater; and his wife, Lucy, who was the joy of his life. To him, family meant everything and were his most valued possessions. No matter the hardship, he saw each day as a gift and only remembered the good—as a child, playing with Roy at Peabody Park or anywhere they roamed, swimming in the creek near Michigan City and eating cold watermelon, dancing with Lucy. He gave his family the gift of a life lived joyfully.
