I have and will continue to tell my story about Merritt Catlin's kindness. When I was a freshman at Memphis State in 1972, my girlfriend and I were in the cafeteria counting our change to see what we could afford for lunch. Mr Catlin noticed us and offered me a job as a bookkeeper for one of the food service units. I have no idea why he did, but I worked for him until I left the university. He was a kind and respectful mentor and I appreciated him so much. He remains one of the enduring memories of kindness that I often speak about.
