Merrill Roe's Obituary
Merrill Lynwood Roe died peacefully at his home on Monday, September 4th. He was born on August 23rd, 1932, and was a lifelong Memphian. Merrill was the son of Charles and Hilda Roe, and he was predeceased by his two brothers, Charles Allen Roe and Donald Eugene Roe.Merrill graduated from Central High School and Memphis State University, now known as the University of Memphis where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He worked for IBM, and was with the sales division of National Computer Systems for 30 years. He retired as the District Manager for the Op Scan Education Systems Division.He was a Tennessee Vol and University of Memphis fan. Since 1992, he maintained a senior garden plot at Shelby Farms where he raised tomatoes that he was always very proud of. He was an avid golfer, and serves as an official for the St. Jude Classic Golf Tournament for almost 35 years before leaving due to failing health.He leaves his wife of 60 years, Sandra Rike Roe, his son Vance Allen Roe and his wife Donna, and his grandchildren: Anderson Louise, Vance Griffin Allen, and Haden Charles Roe.Merrill was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral all of his life. Private services were held graveside at Memorial Park Cemetery on September 6th.Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, The Church Health Center, or the charity of donor’s choice.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
