Melvin Eugene Nelms' Obituary
Melvin Eugene Nelms (Gene), 76, passed peacefully to meet his Heavenly Father on Monday, April 24, 2023. He was the husband of Rebecca Nelms (Becky) and they shared 39 years of marriage together.
Melvin was born in Nashville, GA on September 8, 1946 to Daniel Monroe Nelms and Sara Lucile Durrance. He attended Southern Illinois University and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management. He retired from the U. S. Navy with 22 years of service, and also worked at FedEx Express in Aviation Quality Control before retiring in 2013.
Melvin attended First Dallas Baptist Church online and enjoyed daily Bible study with his wife. He loved the Lord and also cherished his family. He survived an accident that paralyzed him in 2007, however, through Christ, it changed his life. He was a positive minded man with a good sense of humor and enjoyed listening to audible books for entertainment and self-improvement. He will be missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; daughter, Kelley Valdes of Gardendale, AL; daughter, Kristen Nelms of West Blocton, AL; daughter, Sara Corn (Lathe) of Germantown, TN; and stepson, Bryan Carmichael of Tuscaloosa, AL. He also had the joy of grandchildren; grandson, Devyn Valdes; granddaughter, Maggie Valdes; granddaughter, Sadie Dagnan and grandson, Hills Corn. He is also survived by his sister, Teresa Miller; an uncle, three aunts and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Monroe Nelms, mother, Sara Lucile Durrance; brothers Gary Nelms and Mickey Nelms.
A graveside service was held for immediate family at Memorial Park Cemetery on Saturday, April 29. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
