Melba June Yount's Obituary
Melba June Lyon Yount, 81 of Germantown, Tennessee passed from this life suddenly on Sunday, December 25th of 2022 with her husband at her side. She was born on June the 20th of 1941 in Nettleton, Arkansas to her parents, Robert Cecil Lyon and Frances Demondra Morrow Lyon. On August 28th of 1966 she took the hand of Tony Lee Yount, and they were married sharing in over 56 wonderful years together.
Melba grew up in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She attended Arkansas State University and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Education degree where she majored in Art. She began her career teaching high school art in Kennett, Missouri, where she met her future husband. She was then employed as a federal cartographer for the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Once becoming a mother, she chose to stay home and raise her three daughters. In 1986 Melba began her final career at the Memphis Board of Realtors where she retired after 21 years from the Memphis Area Association of Realtors. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and loved to travel.
Melba is survived by her loving husband, Tony Lee Yount of Germantown, TN; three daughters, Tonya Leigh Colville and her husband Benny of Hernando, Mississippi, Stefanie Leanne Taylor and her husband Chris of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas and Jaime Lyn Jamieson and her husband Chris of Maumelle, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Logan Taylor, Jack Huckabee, Lauren Jamieson, Aidan Taylor and Andrew Jamieson; two sisters, Betty Archer and her husband Gene of DeWitt, Arkansas and Doris Moncrief and her husband A.C. of Ozark, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Linda Lyon of O’Fallon, Illinois; and a host of friends and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Cecil and Frances “Babe” Lyon; her brother, Harold Ray Lyon and one grandson, Hunter Christian Taylor.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023 at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, Tennessee. The family will receive guests starting at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Melba’s honor can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
