May Wong's Obituary
Wong, May (Yee, Wai Oi) – age 83, of Memphis, departed peacefully to be with the Lord at Mercy Hospital of Knoxville, TN on March 18, 2011. She was the widow of Jack Wong, the founder of Joy Young Restaurant, Joy Young Express and Wong Boys. She was a dearly loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Those who knew her admired her thirst for life and her continued energy for it. Even her children could barely keep up with her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wong, her son, Wilkie Wong and son-in-law, Eddie Shao. She is survived by daughter Mailing Shao of Hong Kong; son Raymond Wong of Memphis, TN; son and daughter-in-law Wilburn and Aso Wong of Troy, MI; daughter and son-in-law Lyling and Bob Spoone of Knoxville, TN; daughter Sueling Wong and James Purnell of Raleigh, NC. Also she is survived by her grandchildren Tania Shao and Emmanuel Yip, Daniel and Malinee Shao, Lauren Wong, James Wong, Fred Wong, Megan Spoone, and twin great-grandsons Brandon and Connor Yip. Her brother Yee You King, wife Xiao Li, and children Lilac and Andrew of Greenwood, MS and her sister Mary Yee of Detroit, MI also survive her as well as family friend Robert “Prince Mongo” Hodges. Family will receive friends on Friday, March 25th, at the Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar Ave between the hours of 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 26th, at 10:30 a.m. for funeral services. Burial at the gravesite will follow directly after Saturday’s service. Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.
