Maxine Sanders Pyron's Obituary
Maxine Sanders Pyron, 84, died Sunday, January 10, 2010. Maxine was born December 21, 1925 in Corinth, MS to Matthew Alexander and Lillian Armstrong Brown. In 1947, after moving to Memphis, she married Irwin J. Sanders. Together they had four children. Mr. Sanders died August 8, 1975 after a long battle with cancer. In 1980, she married Dr. Thomas C. Pyron. Dr. Pyron also died of cancer on November 4, 1991. Maxine’s most important and meaningful endeavors were her interpersonal relationships. Although she was busy supporting her husbands and caring for her children, Maxine was very active in many organizations. She served on the Board of Directors for a number of organizations including the Memphis Athletic Club, the Memphis Symphony League, Crime Stoppers, Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Nineteenth Century Club. She was a past-president of the Ikebana Garden Club, Random Readers, and Germantown Performing Arts. She was a Duchess of Memphis. She held memberships with The Women’s Exchange, Josephine Circle, Subsidium, Maternal Welfare League, L’Legro, King’s Daughters, and the Brooks Art Gallery. She served as Trustee for Wesleyan Hills Methodist Church where she established the Library for Children. At Mullins Methodist Church she taught Sunday School for children with multiple handicaps. Maxine is survived by her four children, Michael K. Sanders (M) of Ft. Collins, CO; Cherie S. Lindberg, Melinda S. Olinger(Mark), and Alison S. Cobb (J.B.), all of Memphis. She leaves 11 grandchildren, Virginia S. Simms (Richard) of Richardson, TX, Jonathan I. Owens of Marietta, GA, Thomas E. Owens of Durham, N.C., Phillip Scott Rector of Arvada, CO, Anne S. Lindberg, Lauren W. Van Zandt, Andrew S. Olinger, Alexander D. Olinger, Emily E. Olinger, William Cody McKinney, and Margaret Craig Cobb all of Memphis; as well as four great-grandchildren.
