Jeanette Maxine Guthrie
Born August 28, 1932 - Died July 29, 2024
Jeanette Maxine Guthrie, originally from Lufkin Texas, led a life filled with love, music, and community. She was born to Garland Guy Due and Flora Belle Whitt Due and demonstrated a passion for the arts from a young age. enjoying singing. playing the accordion and piano, and performing in the annual Jasper parade.
Maxine grew up in Jasper. Texas, where she attended school, played basketball, cheered, and was honored as the first Annual Jasper Rodeo Queen. She graduated from Jasper High School and continued her education at Baylor University. At Baylor, she formed lasting friendships with her fellow classmates, affectionately known as the "Baylor Beauties."
It was at Baylor that she met her future husband, Bill Glenn Guthrie. After earning her Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Maxine and Bill married and moved to Memphis, Tennessee. Together, they raised their two children. Marks and Shannon, while building their business. Memphis Distribution Services. Their strong commitment to community was evident through their active involvement with Lindenwood Christian Church.
Maxine later embraced a love for golf, continuing her tradition of making friends wherever she went, thanks to her warm-hearted, tun-loving nature and contagious sense of humor.
She is survived by her sister. Jeri Due Jones (Jimmy), her son, Mark Guthrie (Leigh), her daughter. Shannon Guthrie Shanks (Stan), her grandchildren Barrett Guthrie (Kimberly), William Shanks, Michael Shanks (Katelyn), Jordan Guthrie (Rachel), Morgan Knight (Patrick), and eight great-grandchildren.
Maxine will be remembered fondly for her sweet spirit and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
The family invites friends to gather for a graveside service on Friday August 2, 2024 at 11:00am at Memorial Park Southwood Cemetery 5485 Hacks Cross Rd. Memphis, TN 38125.
