Max Stainbrook's Obituary
Maxwell Marvin Stainbrook, Jr. the son of Mr. & Mrs. Maxwell Marvin Stainbrook, Sr. of Memphis went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 27, 2012. Max’s love for his church started as a child at McLean Baptist. He continued his service as a deacon and teacher at Cherokee Baptist and Graceland Baptist. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. Max was blessed with amazing athletic ability in track and field, basketball, & football at Central High. He continued his love of sports at MS State playing the positions of full back, placekicker & quarterback ’47-’50. His favorite achievement was holding the record from1949-2007 for having the most interceptions in one game. He graduated from MS State in 1951. He also enjoyed great fun and success with the sport of golf at Al’s Golfhaven & Windyke Country Club in Memphis. Max served as a Sergeant in the Army and went on to enjoy a rewarding career with Malone & Hyde, Word Records, and Tenn Penn Oil Co. He had a wonderful gift of humor that brought a smile to everyone he came in contact with. He was loved and respected for his integrity and unique wit. Max deeply loved his family. He leaves a beautiful wife of 61 years, Henrietta, sister, Barbara Neilsen from Washington State, three daughters: Susan (Grant) Burrow, Laurie (Brent) Newton, Leslie (Barry) Phillips, and eight adored grandchildren: Taylor, Kristen , Brooke, Blanne, Brooklin, John (Claire), Drew (Rachael) & Wade (Laura Beth). The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 29 at Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, at Second Baptist Church, 4680 Walnut Grove Rd. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Family requests memorials be given to Neighborhood Christian Center, 785 Jackson Ave, Memphis TN 38107 or donate online @ ncclife.org.
