Max Bowers' Obituary
Max L. Bowers, the son of Wiley and Pearl Frizell Bowers, died Wednesday, 7 October 2009.He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora Foppiano Bowers, his son Thomas Lee Bowers, and his sister Laverne Caldwell.Mr. Bowers leaves two sisters, Beauton Bowers and Emily Jackson, a son, Rod Bowers, two daughters-in-law, Lynne Jordan Bowers and Helen Bowers, two nieces, Mary Jo Overton and Suzanne Jackson Overton, two grandchildren, Kevin Bowers and Dana Ledney, and loyal friend, Irene Wright.Mr. Bowers was born in Rives, Tennessee, on September 5, 1914. He graduated from Rives High School. In his early years, Mr. Bowers worked in sales and was a manager at Lowenstein’s Department Store, was active in the Boy Scouts with his sons, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He retired in 1981 after 21 years as a regional representative for General Electric’s small appliance division. He then devoted his time to fishing and logging thousands of hours as a volunteer for St. Francis Hospital in Memphis and St. Vincent’s Hospital in Venice, Florida. Mr. Bowers was active in the Lakeland community and served as president of the Lakeland Lions Club. Prior to his death, Mr. Bowers and his wife were enthusiastic members of the Merry Makers of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Germantown and enjoyed participating in activities at Kirby Pines Estates where Mr. Bowers resided at the time of his death. Mr. Bowers’ excellent mechanical abilities made him in demand by friends and family alike. His sense of humor will be missed.Visitation will be Friday, 9 October, at Memorial Park Funeral Home and memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, 10 October, at Memorial Park Funeral Home.A service will also be held for residents at Kirby Pines Estates Chapel at 3:30 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Lakeland Lions Club, or the Kirby Pines Estates Library Fund.
