Mattie Lou Tanner Hughes' Obituary
Mattie Lou Tanner Hughes, 100, passed away April 7, 2018. She worked for First Tennessee Bank until she retired. Prior to that she worked for Firestone during WW II making life boats. Mattie also did a lot of volunteer work for Women’s Missionary Union, Women’s Auxiliary at the Baptist Hospital, Baptist Children’s Home, and Eastern Star. She was also a long-time member of Georgian Hills Baptist Church. Mattie was given an honorary proclamation from Mayor Strickland, on her 100th birthday, for being a member of the Centenarian Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Maude Tanner; brothers and sisters, Thurman Tanner, Velma Crocker, Buck Tanner, Arlie Tanner, Cheerful Floyd, Lloyd Tanner, and Bobby Tanner. She is survived by 2 brothers, T. Key Tanner and Travis Tanner; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Thursday, April 12 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm, Friday, April 13 also at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
