Matie Cook, 88, passed away April 28, 2015. Matie grew up in San Antonio, Texas. She was the fourth of six children. She graduated from St. Gerard’s High School and Incarnate Word College in San Antonio. She then taught 4th grade at W.W. White Elementary School in San Antonio for 11 years. She married A.J. Cook in 1952 and they lived in San Antonio till they moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1969. Matie’s interests include: playing bridge in multiple bridge clubs, working in her yard in which she has created a beautiful landscape for the neighborhood, reading historical fiction and perusing the Wall Street Journal every day. One of her goals was to become as good of a cook as her mother. She definitely accomplished that as she is well known by family and friends for her homemade rolls, sticky buns, praline candies, and best of all apple pie. Matie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her three children: Lisa Cook Rankin (Bill) of Houston, Mary Beth Del Conte (Garry), and John Cook (Terri) of Memphis. She has nine grandchildren: Rachel of Austin, TX and Meghan, Mary, Danny, Tim, Tess, Christina, Juliana, and Thomas of Memphis and one great-granddaughter, Gwyn of Austin. She loved laughing, spending time with friends and family and being there for her grandchildren. Many people who knew her comment that she is the kindest most giving people they have ever known.
