Mary Zuleika Grogan's Obituary
Mary Zuleika Grogan, 90, passed away surrounded by her family on July 24, 2014 at Allenbrooke Rehabilitation Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Zuleika, affectionately known as “Zeke,” attended Humes High School and the University of Tennessee Dental School, after which she spent years as a dental assistant and office manager. She was an active member of Harris Memorial Church for 30 years and of St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church for nearly 40 years. Zeke loved music, sang in the church choirs, played the piano and organ for church services, weddings, and funerals, and performed in several Front Street Theater musical productions. She could also often be found gardening in her backyard and spoiling her grandchildren. Her friends and family knew her as a very generous and kind soul who was always sharing of herself and her talents with others. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Underwood of Memphis, and was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Grogan, long-time editor of The Memphis Daily News court and legal newspaper. She is survived by her son, Bill Grogan, of Memphis; daughter, Diana Sue of Ocean Springs, MS; grandchildren Marti Bott, of Buena Vista, CO, Karen Murphy of Chicago, IL, John Murphy of Chicago, IL and Donna Murphy of Ocean Springs, MS; great-grandchildren Grady Bott, Avery Bott, Kyleigh Robinson, Gavin Hightower, and Gwendolyn Grace Murphy. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 27 from 5-7 P.M., and the funeral service will be on Monday, July 28 at 2:30 P.M. all at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
