Mary Sue Worthy's Obituary
Mary Sue Worthy, passed away on October 20, 2021 while at home. She was born in Anniston, Alabama on June 4, 1929 to Jesse and Maggie Rodgers. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Worthy, her daughter, Cathleen Worthy Calhoun, and sisters Sadie Patterson, Letty Hutcheson, Betty Morgan, Francis Smith and brother Alvin Rodgers.
Mary Sue held many jobs during her lifetime. She worked at General Electric in Oxford, Alabama during the 1950's and early 60's. In 1964, Mary moved to Alexandria, Louisiana and worked in a bakery and retail store. She later continued her career as a store Manager for Diana Shops in Birmingham, Alabama during the late 1990's. While working for Gibson's Interior Decorator in Birmingham, Alabama she retired in 2006.
Mary Sue was a avid reader and took great pleasure in reading books, putting puzzles together, flower gardening and bird watching. In her younger years, Mary enjoyed square dancing, scrabble and playing card games. While living in Gadsden, Alabama she took great pleasure in volunteering her time to teach flower gardening skills to special needs adults. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Eastern Star in Anniston, Alabama.
Mary Sue is survived by her son, Chuck Worthy and wife Janet of Ball, Louisiana, her daughter, Pamela Worthy Stackhouse and husband, Jim of Collierville, TN and her sister, Barbara Silvey of Atlanta, GA. She also leaves six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchilden, and seven great-great grandchildren. In addition, she leaves many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Sunday, November 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Forestlawn Gardens and Mausoleum in Anniston, Alabama
