Mary Nell Wilkinson Wood's Obituary
Mary Nell Wilkinson Wood passed away July 7, 2021 in Huntsville AL.
Born September 14, 1925 in Memphis TN to John Tate Wilkinson and Richard Gaston.
Mary graduated from Central High School in Memphis in 1944 and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she joined Kappa Delta sorority. She transferred and graduated from Rhodes College in 1948. Although, her whole life she was an avid Tennessee fan who’s heart always “bled orange”. Following college, she taught school in Memphis, pausing her career to raise her family and moving to Huntsville AL .
She later returned to Memphis, to teaching, earned a masters degree from Trevecca Nazarene College, and retired in 1996.
She spent retirement back in Huntsville where she was an avid reader and big supporter of The Huntsville Friends of the Library.
She leaves a daughter Nancy Wood Ward and son Mark Wood of Huntsville AL; and three grandchildren, Ben Ward, Tate Wood, and Marielle Wood, all of Huntsville.
A memorial service will be held in Huntsville on Saturday, July 10 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 2:00. A private graveside service will follow later with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Huntsville Friends of the Library.
