Mary Watson's Obituary
Mary Jewell Watson, 93, widow of John W. Watson, died November 10, 2013 at St Francis Hospital after a brief illness. Born January 28, 1920 to Tommie and Gentry Disheroon, Mary Jewell was a life-long Memphian.In June of 1940, Mary Jewell and John were married having met on a blind date orchestrated by his sister. Their union lasted 64 years. With the outbreak of the Second World War the couple lived briefly in Colorado Springs, Colorado, during John’s military service. At the end of the war, the couple returned to Memphis where she resumed her career as a book keeper for the advertising firm Lake, Spiro and Sherman which later became Plough and finally Merck by the time Mary Jewell retired after 45 years of service.Her family were early and committed members of First United Methodist Church, a tradition Mary Jewell and John continued through out their lives.Having no children of her own, Mary Jewell showered her love on nieces and nephews who treasured her. She was a loving and devoted wife and a kind and loving neighbor and friend.
