Mary "Mimi" Uhlmann's Obituary
Mimi Hall Uhlmann was born in Memphis on December 6, 1949 to Houston and Mary Ellen Hall and passed peacefully at home on August 15th. She was preceded in death by her parents and her niece, Kate Wimmer. She is survived by the love of her life and husband, Rob Uhlmann, son Alex Uhlmann, daughter Ellen Uhlmann, sister Judy Wimmer (Fred), brother Tony Hall (Beverly), aunt Aileen Kinsella, niece Ashley Hall Smith (Mike), and nephews Dana Wimmer (Lori), Peter Wimmer, and Scott Hall. Mimi was a 1967 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School for Girls and a 1971 graduate of the University of Memphis, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She began her long career in journalism and public relations (PR) by editing trade magazines, then switched to the financial services industry, where she worked for two Memphis banks and a Nashville securities brokerage. She returned to Memphis to develop a corporate communications department for Morgan Keegan, Inc. She later started her own PR/Investor Relations/Marketing consulting firm, Mimi Hall Communications, where she won several national awards for annual reports produced for clients including Morgan Keegan, Buckeye Technologies, MAA, and Education Realty Trust. She sold her firm and retired in 2005. With a passion for improving educational opportunities for poor children, Mimi came out of retirement in 2010 to become Director of Corporate Recruiting for Education That Works program at Memphis Catholic High School, and she served there until her recent retirement due to illness.Mimi was a 1989 graduate of Leadership Memphis, and served on the boards of the Mid-South Food Bank; Catholic Charities of West Tennessee; Girls, Inc.; Birthright of Memphis; the Shelby Farms Advisory panel; and the University of Memphis Journalism Alumni Association. As a girl, many of her happiest days were spent in the piney woods of Camp Marymount. As a woman, she never laughed more deeply or often than in the dining room of the Wolf River Society. She also participated for several years in Bible Study Fellowship classes, which she found informative and inspiring.Mimi sang professionally, and performed in productions at Front St. Theatre, Playhouse on the Square, and in the Memphis Symphony Chorus. She loved being a cantor for St. Louis Catholic Church, where she sang at many weddings and funerals, and for many years she was soloist for the Easter sunrise service at Calvary Cemetery, which she especially enjoyed.Visitation will be at 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, August 19th at St. Louis Catholic Church. Her funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 20th at St. Louis Catholic Church on White Station. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Education That Works, Attn: Mr. Didier Aur, President, Memphis Catholic High School, 61 N. McLean Blvd., Memphis, TN 38104, or to Immaculate Conception High School for Girls, Attn: Ms. Vicki Sampietro, 1669 Central Ave., Memphis, TN 38104. Arrangements are being handled by Memorial Park.
