Mary Lou Thompson's Obituary
Mary Lou Herbers Thompson, age 91, died on December 8th at Bright Glade Convalescent Center. She was the widow of Barney A. Thompson. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. Mary Lou was a loving wife and mother of two, Betty L. Thompson Pate (Jim) of Memphis and Jim A. Thompson (Mary Ann) of Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Herbers and her grandson, Jake Thompson. Mary Lou was a loving grandmother to James R. Pate III (Carrie) of Shepherdstown, West Virginia and Angie Thompson Brown (Roy)of Knoxville. She was the great grand mother of Louisa and Charlotte Pate. Mary Lou was a founding member of St. Michael’s Church where she served as Lector and Extraordinary Minister of Communion. She was active in St. Michael’s School, where her children were educated. She was a founder of the Rosary Circle of the Ave Maria Guild and served for many years as President and member of the board at Ave Maria Home. Mary Lou and Barney enjoyed years of Square and Round Dancing together and both played leadership roles in the Cursillo Movement. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM December 11th at Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rosary at 7:00. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on December 12th at St. Michael Catholic Church. The family would like to say a special thank you to the nurses and CNA’s at Bright Glade Convalescent Center and Crossroads Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Church, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, or St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School.
