Mary Elizabeth Smith's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Smith, age 98, peacefully passed away on June 6th, 2024.
She was born on July 8th, 1925 in Brunswick, TN. She was a graduate of Bolton High School.
In addition to being a homemaker, she taught kindergarten at Harding Academy for several years. She was very devoted to her family. It was evident to all who knew her that she had a sweet spirit and an unwavering faith in the Lord.
She was an avid and talented writer, recording daily in a journal about family and life events.
She also enjoyed writing poetry. Her other hobbies included collecting angels, playing cards and games with friends and family, and sewing, of which she made many costumes and matching outfits for her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Wayne E. Smith, whom she was married to for 43 years, her children, Wayne E. Smith Jr., Shonnie Wheeley, and Sydney Amos, and two sisters, Virginia Johnson and Carole Kelley. She leaves behind six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three nephews, two nieces, and her loving and devoted friend, Linda Gill.
Mary was a member of White Station Church of Christ.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 13 at 1:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. all in the Fireside Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
