Mary Baird Simpson's Obituary
Mary Baird Simpson was welcomed into the Kingdom of God on January 24, 2018. A current resident of Memphis and former 15-year resident of New York City, Mary spent her childhood in Memphis where she attended Central High School and graduated from Overton High School.Mary graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin as a business major where she was President of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, Secretary of Finance for the Student Government, Sweetheart of Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity, and received the Paul and Martha Meek Leadership Award as the Outstanding Senior Woman in the 1971 graduating class.Mary began her professional career with IBM in Memphis and worked in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and San Francisco in technical support and sales management. When she retired after 30 years of service, Mary was a Consultant for IBM in the National Services Division.Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Charles Jeffrey “Jeff” Simpson. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Malcolm Baird and his wife, Debbie, of Nashville; niece, Jennifer Baird of Mandeville, LA; nephew Lt. Colonel Kevin Baird and his wife, Elizabeth, and their children, Matthew and Kristen, of Burke, VA; nephew Robert Baird, and his wife, Dr. Katie Baird, and their children, William, Mary Turner, and Pearson of Mandeville, LA; brother-in-law, Paul Simpson and his wife, Carol, of Memphis; and her sister-in-law, Sue Warr, of Johnson City, TN.Mary will be remembered as a generous, hospitable woman who cherished the company of family and friends. She loved and supported the arts, and she was always gracious.
