Mary JoAnn "Jo" Shaner's Obituary
Mary JoAnn “Jo” Shaner, 61, of Memphis, TN, died March 21, 2023 unexpectedly but peacefully at home. She was born in a taxi cab on October 31, 1961 on Waring Road in Memphis, TN to Clarence “Pete” and Jane Wade. Jo attended Bishop Byrne and White Station High School before heading off to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a full ride scholarship. She married her soulmate, Timothy Glenn Shaner, on December 10, 1997 after tripping over him at work three years before.
Jo was an entrepreneur at heart having three business after moving to Charlotte, NC. Later she moved back to her hometown Memphis, TN to start another business in neon, lighting, electrical and glassware. She sold these businesses and found a passion for Real Estate that allowed her to help others. Jo was a top producing Realtor and co-founder of the Lipsey Shaner Team with partner Danny Lipsey for more than 25 years. Together, Jo and Danny were founding partners of the Keller Williams Realty in Memphis, TN, they were consistently Team of the Year, Top Producers, and closed an average of 200 transactions a year. Jo served on various committees including Women’s Council of Realtors (President), Multimillion Dollar Club (President), Memphis Association of Realtors Benevolent Fund Committee, KW Cares, Red Day leader, Youth Villages 5K Race Steering Committee, and so much more.
Although she enjoyed fishing, gardening, painting, music, amongst other things, her main focus was her family. She never told a story about her husband without saying how “pretty her Timmy Shaner” was. She treasured her daughter Stephanie and Tony, her son-in-law, and their five grandchildren.
Jo is survived by her husband, Timothy Glenn Shaner, her daughter Stephanie Steele Westmoreland (Tony), grandchildren: Jackson, Liam, Alexander, Emmett, and Jane, sisters Margaret Knupp and Jane Theobald, and brother Martin Wade. She was preceded in death by her parents Jane and Clarence Wade, and brothers Marc Wade and Tommy Robbins.
Visitation will be Monday March 27, 2023 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Memphis Park Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 11:00am (visitation at 10:00am) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (155 Market Street) followed by internment at Memorial Park. A celebration of life will follow at SOB East on Sanderlin Ave from 12:30pm-4:00pm.
