Mary Norris King's Obituary
MARY NORRIS KING died at the age of 67 on September 5, 2011 in Memphis, TN after battling emphysema and COPD for many years. Mary demonstrated utmost will-power when she quit smoking cold turkey 25 years ago in 1986. Mary spent much of her career as a devoted wife and homemaker raising four children. During the 1960s, Mary worked as a key punch operator and later as a data entry clerk in the Atlanta office of the Internal Revenue Service where she met her husband. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Mary worked as a part-time bank teller at the White Station Tower branch of Union Planters Bank where she took pleasure in assisting customers with all of their needs. In her pastime, Mary very much enjoyed cross-stitching. Mary was an outgoing and loving person and her legacy of courage and determination will live on in her children and grandchildren. Mary is survived by her husband of 41 years, David King of Memphis, TN; four children, Bradley King of Rockmart, GA, Deborah King, Jennifer McCulley, and Casey King of Memphis, TN; six grandchildren, Christopher King (Vanessa), Carla Brown and Callie King of Rockmart, GA, Logan McCulley, Caleb McCulley, and Jacob McCulley of Memphis, TN; one great-grandchild, Gracee Brown of Rockmart, GA; and three siblings, Joan Simpson of Roswell, GA, Don Hammett of The Villages, FL, and Shirley Brideau of Kennesaw, GA. Mary was predeceased by her brother, David Norris, on December 8, 1998. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 6, from 5-8 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 7, at 10 a.m. in the Riverside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home followed immediately by a committal service at the Mausoleum. Many thanks to all family and friends who supported Mary throughout her life. “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1).
