Mary Elizabeth Johnson's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Johnson,98, passed away on April 27, with her family by her side in Memphis, Tn.Elizabeth was from Pinson, TN where she met and married her sweetheart, James Johnson. After she completed Business School, they moved to Memphis where James was stationed at the Millington Naval Base. She worked as a secretary for the Defense Depot. When she retired she enjoyed traveling with her husband spending several months each year camping in Florida.She is a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James E. Johnson and daughter , Virginia Anne Williamson. She is survived by her two sons, James E. (Nancy) Johnson Jr. of North Carolina, Robert W. (Debbie) Johnson including three grandchildren, Amy (Dale)Besinger of Olive Branch, Ms, Stacie(Paul)Underwood and Jeff Johnson of North Carolina, three great grandchildren, Matthew Rivera, Bradley Besinger, and William Underwood and two great great grandchildren, Kaden and Karsen Rivera.Elizabeth was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, gardening, crafting quilts/afghans. We will miss her caring and fun-loving personality.The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 29 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. with the Graveside service to follow immediately at 1:00 p.m. All services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930 “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, Tn.38105 or stjude.org.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to her loving caregivers, Geneva Williams, Glenda Hines, Pearline Toles and special thanks to Vera Rayford.
