Mary "Betty" John's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Harrison John (Betty) – 91 of Memphis, Tennessee passed away Monday September 1, 2014 peacefully in her home. She was born in Jonesboro, Ark on August 2, 1923 and graduated from Pine Bluff High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Owen, her parents Dr. James F. Harrison and Beulah E. Martin and her five sisters. She is survived by her six children, Ann John of Middlesex, NY, Carolyn John of Memphis, TN, Jane Thayer (Chester) of Memphis, TN, David John (Lori) of Franklin, TN, Mary Beth Lazek (Gary) of Germantown, TN and Robert John (Pamela) of Memphis, TN and 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was a founding member of St. Louis Catholic Church and sang in the choir for many years. She was a member of the Princeton Park Garden Club and loved playing bridge. She loved the piano and enjoyed teaching her children and grandchildren how to play. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Monsignor Paul Clunan Endowment Fund at St. Louis Catholic Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 4 from 5:00-7:00pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home with a funeral mass to celebrate her life at St. Louis Catholic Church on Friday, September 5 at 10:00 am.
