Mary Welker Herbers' Obituary
Mary Welker Herbers, a native Memphian, died on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. The daughter of William L. and Mary Belle Holt Welker, she graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1941. In 1943 she married Frank J. Herbers forming a lifelong partnership which lasted 56 years. Together they enjoyed raising their two children, traveling around the world, and running their own real estate company, Herbers & Associates.While her children were growing up, Mary was active in church and school organizations. She served as a brownie troop leader at St. Michael’s, President of Catholic High School Association for Parents and Sponsors (CHAPS), and she was a member of the Madonna Circle.In 1965 Mary procured her real estate license and joined her husband Frank at Kemmons Wilson Realty Company. Her spirit and persistence made Mary a natural salesperson. In 1968 she was named Saleswoman of the Year by the Memphis Board of Realtors and a Life Member of the Million Dollar Sales Club. In 1971 Frank was President of the Tennessee Association of Realtors and together they travelled the state supporting local boards. Their real estate careers culminated with the fulfillment of a long time dream to open their own real estate company.Throughout her career Mary continued to be active in the community serving on the Board of the Kidney Foundation, as well as holding offices in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) Women’s Guild, the Merrymakers, and the Wicklow Home Owners Association.Mary was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her son Deacon Bill (Judi) Herbers, her daughter, Dr. Sharon Herbers, two grandchildren, Kim (Patrick) Winne and Jeff ( Jacyntha) Herbers. In addition, she was the proud great- grandmother of Tyler, Collin, Jack and Mikey Winne.Visitation: Friday August 25th 5:30-7pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Funeral Mass: Saturday August 26th 10am.
