Mary Genellen Harris' Obituary
On Tuesday, January 5, 2021, Mary Genellen Harris passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Genellen was the daughter of Mary Alma Wilkinson and the late Bill Wilkinson. She leaves her husband of almost 41 years, William “Billy” Harris of Arlington, TN. She was the loving mother of Jennifer Harris Pollina (Tony) of Atoka, TN and Aubrey Brian Harris, who proceeded her in death in 2017. She was the adoring grandmother of two grandchildren, Harrison and Evan Pollina. She also leaves two brothers, Charles Wilkinson (Nancy) of Hernando, MS and William Wilkinson (Yong) of Bend, OR. Genellen leaves a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who she loved with all of her heart.
Genellen was born on October 21, 1960 in Savannah, GA. She was a 1978 graduate of Whitehaven High School. She received a bachelors degree in elementary education from Memphis State University. Genellen devoted her life to educating children and serving others. She recently retired after dedicating 25 years to teaching and nurturing the children of our community. She was a teacher at Tara Oaks Elementary and Donelson Elementary. Genellen was a faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and most recently, Highland Heights Presbyterian Church. For 30 years she led children in the children’s choirs, taught Sunday school, and directed children’s programs.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 from 11 am until the Celebration of her Life service starts at 1pm at Highland Heights Presbyterian Church, 2855 Morning Sun Rd., Cordova, TN, 38016. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.
Genellen touched the lives of so many. She was a constant beacon of light in our stormy world. Her kindness, positivity, and sweet spirit will never be forgotten. The family asks that any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
