Mary Jo Chism's Obituary
MARY JO CHISM, 78, of Germantown, TN, died on December 4, 2013. She was born in Tracy City, TN to William E. and Lena Elliott. She was a teacher with the Memphis City Schools and adjunct professor at University of Memphis and State Tech of Memphis. She was an active member of Germantown Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon for 3 years. She also participated in Stephen Ministry, Presbyterian Women and local mission projects. She also sang in the choir. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Chism. Mary Jo leaves a sister, Betty McGovern of Tracy City; three nieces, Glenda Slack, Kelly (Robert) Held, and Melody (Kim) Proemmel and a nephew, Keith (Janese) McCeney; nine great-nieces and nephews, Julie (Ken) Nelson, Daniel Slack, Jason (Shannon) Sempsrott, Elizabeth (Russell) Drzak, Christopher Held, Elliott McCeney, Joshua Proemmel, Caleb McCeney and Callie McCeney; four great-great nephews, Michael (Crystal) Nelson, Cory Nelson, Andrew Nelson and Hunter Nelson, and one great-great-niece, Nora Sempsrott. She had degrees from University of Tennessee and University of Memphis. Visitation will be held in Warren Hall at Germantown Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m., with funeral service at 12 p.m., Thursday, December 12. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Germantown Presbyterian Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
