Mary Charles "Charlie" Gillespie's Obituary
Mary Charles “Charlie” Gillespie 87, passed away April 29, 2015 at Ave Maria Home in Bartlett, Tennessee. She was born in Memphis, attended Blessed Sacrament Grammar School, and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She retired from John Morrell & Company. Charlie enjoyed playing bridge with friends and bowling through the years. She especially enjoyed bowling in the Senior Olympics. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thelma C. Cloyes and Fletcher H. Cloyes, her brother, Fletcher Hugh Cloyes, SR. and William L. “Buddy” Martin. Her beautiful smile and sweet laugh will be remembered by everyone that knew her, especially her beloved husband, James E. Gillespie and her children: Larry Martin (Gayle) of Memphis; Janet Quinn (John) of Memphis; Chuck Martin of Memphis, Louise Carpenter (Bill) of Kansas City, Missouri. She also leaves 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 stepchildren: Phillip Gillespie (Elaine) of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Gail Deen (Wayne) of St. Louis, Missouri; Julia Johnson (Daniel) of Dothan, Alabama and 9 step grandchildren and 5 step great-grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her stepson, Cary Gillespie and survived by his wife, Rebetta. Her family is so thankful for the wonderful care and love she received at Ave Maria Home over the past five and a half years. The staff and all who cared for her were truly a blessing to Charlie and her family. Visitation will be Thursday, April 30, from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be Friday, May 1, at 11:30 am. All services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Ave Maria Green House Project or the Alzheimer’s Association.
