Mary Chamberlain's Obituary
Mary Edna McKee Chamberlain, Ed.D. went peacefully to her Heavenly Home with her Lord and Savior on March 23, 2012. Mrs. Chamberlain was born on March 7, 1920 in Memphis, TN to Samuel S. and Mary E. McKee. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Edward McKee, Myrtle McKee Tyrer and Dorothy McKee Sullivan. She is survived by her younger brother, Samuel S. McKee Jr. (Nancy). She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Chamberlain graduated from Austin Peay State College in 1942 with a degree in education. In the mid 1940’s Mrs. Chamberlain received her airplane pilot license and served as a Women Airforce Service Pilot (WASP). She married military officer, Frost Greek of Nashville, TN, but was widowed by WWII. Widowed Mrs. Chamberlain worked as an American Airlines stewardess through the late 1940’s and 50’s. She attended the University of Virginia and received her Master’s in Educations and then her Doctorate of Education in 1977. She retired from the Virginia Board of Education where she served in education planning, textbook selection and teacher curriculum training. After retirement, Mrs. Chamberlain returned to Germantown, TN to be near her family. Together she and her sister, Myrtle Tyrer, became realtors with Sterling Realty. Mrs. Chamberlain was a joy filled Christian with an infectious smile. She cared for others and especially wanted each to have the opportunity to hear the gospel message and get an education. Mrs. Chamberlain attended Second Presbyterian Church and helped establish its church plant in Germantown, TN. She served as a church leader and on a prayer chain. Wednesday, March 28, at 1:30 p.m. the family will receive friends. Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery in Memphis, TN followed by burial.
