Mary Emma Bodry's Obituary
Mary Emma Cothran Bodry, 89, of Drummonds, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at home. She was born on January 18, 1924 in Mason, TN, to Joe Bailey Cothran and Mary Odena Wilson Cothran. Mary Emma grew up in Mason. She graduated from Byars-Hall High School in Covington, TN, in 1941. Afterwards she began work at Sears & Roebuck in Memphis as a typist for the Mail Order Buyers. Mary Emma met the love of her life, Walter A. Bodry Jr. in 1941. They corresponded during WWII and became engaged on April 4, 1944 while he was still in the Navy. They married December 30, 1945 and enjoyed over 55 years of marriage. Mary Emma is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Martha Jo Downs, and brother Wilson Cothran. Survivors include her daughter Mary Joyce and husband of Pigeon Forge, TN; son Walter A. Bodry (Dena) Drummonds, TN; 5 grandchildren, William Baldy, Jennifer Baldy, Sarah Bodry, Ivy Oatsvall (Justin), Christopher Hetzler (Katie) and Kevin Hetzler (Megan); and 5 great grandchildren: Bailey, Sophia, Emma, Willow and Rylee. The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., with the funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. We would like to thank the many friends and family that supported her through life’s joys and challenges. She will be remembered for her lasting commitment and devotion to her family. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Missionary Baptist Church where she attended services.
