Mary Ann Bailey's Obituary
MARY ANN BAILEY, a lifelong Shelby County resident, who showed how to love God, live life and raise a family, died Tuesday at her Germantown home. She was 79. Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 at Memorial Park and a funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Church of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where she was a longtime member. Mrs. Bailey, who was preceded in death by her husband, Al Bailey, grew up on Josephine Street, started her family in East Memphis, then spent the last half of her life in Whitehaven and Germantown. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High and attended Memphis State. While her full-time duties were raising three children, she later held several part-time jobs at places like the University of Memphis and Baptist Brotherhood. She was a member of Madonna Circle, St. Luke’s Circle and Circle Arts. A breast cancer survivor, she enjoyed traveling, Wednesday bridge club and a good party. Her shining accomplishments were 54 years of marriage to Al, raising three children and enjoying an array of friends. She is survived by her son, Clay Bailey of Cordova; two daughters, Cynthia Patterson of Collierville and Leigh Zipperer of Germantown; a sister, Margaret Kurts of Indianapolis; Clay’s wife, Martha, their son Kyle and daughter, Jana Radford; Jana’s husband, Jeff, and their son, Cooper; Cynthia’s partner, Roger Oelke, her daughter, Melissa, her husband, Randy Webb and their daughter, Makenzie; Leigh’s husband, Mark, and their daughter, Regina.
