Marvin (Marty) Hugh Hobbs' Obituary
Marvin (Marty) Hugh Hobbs, Jr., 59, went to be with Jesus on July 19, 2014. He was born on September 10, 1954 in Horn Lake, MS. He attended Raineshaven Elementary School in Whitehaven, and graduated from East High School in Memphis in 1972. He graduated with a B.S. degree in accounting from the University of Memphis in 1976. He worked for the federal government as a letter carrier at the U.S. Postal Service in Bartlett, TN for 30 years and retired January 2014. Previous to working there, he had also worked for Internal Revenue Service, FedEx, and ARA. Marty enjoyed going to Redbird’s games and University of Memphis sporting events. He enjoyed visiting the zoo and was a member of the Memphis Zoological Society. He enjoyed entering contests on WREC am 600 and won lots of them by answering trivia sports questions. He loved history and once read an entire set of encyclopedias. He enjoyed patronizing Evans Café in Olive Branch, MS. Marty will be remembered by his admirable traits such as keeping decent company, never saying bad things about anyone, always in a cheerful mood, and telling jokes. He was a friendly mailman who will be missed by many customers and friends. He is survived by his father Marvin Hugh Hobbs, Sr. of Memphis, TN, longtime girlfriend Judy Carol Baites of Olive Branch, MS, lifelong friend John P. Harrison of Horn Lake, MS and also leaves behind many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his Mother Margaret Sandidge Hobbs. He was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church and Labelle Haven Baptist Church. In addition to flowers, memorials can be made to American Cancer Society or charity of the donor’s choice. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 25 and from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral service begins at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26 all at Memorial Park Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis TN, 38119.
