Marvin Richard Edwards' Obituary
Marvin Richard Edwards, 95, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2023, at Signature Healthcare in Memphis, Tennessee 38134. Margaret, Marvin's loving wife of 67 years preceded in him December 2017. Marvin was born on February 8, 1928, to Walter and Irene Edwards.
He graduated from Humes High School in Memphis, and also attended Memphis State University (the name at that time). He was employed at Sears, Roebuck, and Co on Crosstown for 42 years and retired from there before its closing. He often said that he started working for Sears for $.50 an hour!
He enlisted in the Army, and that was one of his fondest memories if you ever talked with him. He wore a Veteran's hat all the time and he would tell people that he wore the hat for the men and women who did not return home. People would walk up to him and thank him for his services almost daily.
His hobbies were helping people whenever he could, and working on clocks. Marvin belonged to the National Association of Watch Collectors, King Cotton Chapter #48.At one time he had 100 clocks on shelves or hanging on the wall in his den.
He leaves behind a niece, Mary H. Overby, and two great-nieces, Elizabeth Collins of Franklin, North Carolina and Catherine Tankersley of Southaven, Mississippi, a great-nephew, Russell Overby of Arlington, Tennessee, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Blackwell of Farmville, Virginia
