Martin Joe Brugge's Obituary
Martin Joe Brugge of Germantown died on October 22, 2016. He was born in Greeneville, Mississippi, on April 30, 1931, the son of Otis Frederick Brugge and Lida Nott Brugge. He was a Lutheran. He graduated from Messick High, served in the U.S. Army, then completed a business degree at Arkansas State. He married Roberta Black Williams of Pocahontas, Arkansas in 1954. They moved from Memphis in 1960, raised their family in Farragut in East Tennessee, and moved to Germantown in 1972. They were active in the English Meadows Garden Club and English Meadows Neighborhood Association. Martin was well-known in the logistics community and represented truck rental and leasing fleets for several area firms over the years. He served several terms as an officer for the Associated Transportation Club (formerly Memphis Motor Transport Association). In retirement he delivered flowers and tended seed displays, and helped Roberta to entertain the grandchildren. After Roberta’s death last year, Martin lived at South Breeze. Martin was preceded in death by his sister Peggy B. Harmon and his brother Fred. He is survived by three children: Mike, with wife Celia King Brugge, Robin Brugge, and Dixie Strausser with husband Kurt Strausser, and six grandchildren: Martin Brugge, John and wife Christine Pick Brugge, Tara Lewis, Marcus Lewis, Kyle Strausser, and Kaylyn Strausser Benson with husband Morgan Benson. Special friends of the family are Priscilla Chik, Dorothy Harmon Hooper, and Hunter Brooks.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119.
