Martha (Florence) Johnson Reardon's Obituary
Martha (Florence) Johnson Reardon, 82, of Memphis went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 2, 2024. She was a much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Martha was born in Memphis and graduated from East High School in 1959, She attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Following her time at the University of Alabama, Martha attended a secretarial school and then worked for the Memphis Criminal Court Judges for seven years prior to her decision to be a fulltime homemaker.
Martha loved the Lord and was an active member of First Evangelical Church. She was involved in the Cornerstone Sunday School Class, Downline Ministries, Evangelical Christian School, Women’s Ministry and many other community ministries. She loved being with her husband and with her family, traveling to the English countryside, afternoon tea, painting, and studying scripture. She lived out I Thessalonians 2:8 in how she loved many so well that she was “delighted to share” with many “not only the gospel of God but” her life as well. Her love of Jesus encouraged her to entertain in her home from family dinners, visiting missionaries to the many young people involved in their lives. Martha loved well and served others throughout her life. She left an indelible impact on every life she touched and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. James “Jim” Reardon, her daughter Carolyn Gibson (Will) of Knoxville, her son Farley Reardon (Jamie) of Nashville, and her six grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Carolyn and Miller Johnson of Memphis.
A celebration of her life will be Saturday, March 16, 2024, at First Evangelical Church with visitation from 1:00pm to 3:00pm in the Fellowship Hall and service at 3:00pm in the Sanctuary. The family will have a private burial service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Downline Ministries (3645 Forest Hill Irene Road, Germantown, TN 38138), to Mila’s House in Memphis (BMH Good Grief Center- Milla’s House, 1520 W. Poplar, Collierville, TN 38017) or to the charity of your choice.
