Martha Nell Hawkins' Obituary
Martha Nell Hawkins, age 89, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026. She was born Martha Nell Horton on July 12, 1936, in Savannah, TN where she spent her childhood years before marrying the love of her life, Lloyd Hawkins, and making their home in Memphis, where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lloyd Hawkins; her parents, Mamie and Zack Horton; and her siblings, Robert Horton, Ray Horton, and Lois Schwartz.
She leaves behind her three children and their spouses: Jredia Duke and her husband, Dr. Robert Duke; Al Hawkins and his wife, Tina; and Leslie Bizzell and her husband, Scott. She also leaves behind ten cherished grandchildren: Gennifer, Joshua, Lindsey, Michael, Elizabeth, Shane, Charleston, Kerith, Aubrey, and Caleb, along with eight great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved.
Martha’s greatest passion was her family and her faith. She and Lloyd were faithful, active members of First Assembly of God throughout their married life. She was known as a fabulous cook, and one of her favorite ways to show love was through the meals and desserts she lovingly prepared and shared with others. She also faithfully encouraged those around her through thoughtful cards and gestures that reminded people they were loved and remembered.
Her family carries with them countless sweet memories, far too many to list. Though she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, they find comfort and peace in knowing she is whole again and home with Jesus, reunited with those who went before her.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at First Assembly of God of Church, 8650 Walnut Grove Rd., Memphis TN 38018.
