Martha Jo Gulo Rucker's Obituary
Martha Jo Gulo Rucker, died peacefully at her home, July 17, 2013. She was born April 22, 1924 in Memphis, TN, to Ruth and Joe Gulo. Raised in Mid-town Memphis, she graduated from Snowden, and Central High School, and Southwestern where she was an active member of Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority as a student and alumnus. She continued her education by earning a Master’s Degree at University of TN, Knoxville. A chance meeting at a USO dance brought Martha and Bill Rucker together. They were married for 58 years and are survived by their 2 sons Joe and John Rucker. As an involved parent and PTA member, Martha also served as President of East High School PTA and was active in Woodruff-Fountain House. In 1978, Bill and Martha bought Mid-America Publishing (Key Magazine of Memphis) where they continued working closely with their 2 sons for over 30 years. She rejoiced in spending time with her grandsons, Stuart and Sean Rucker, whether it was Target trips, museums or just hanging out at home. Martha was blessed to have Lisa Ragen Rucker as a daughter-in-law whom she loved like her own and gave her such joy. Martha had a wonderful sense of humor, a great wit and will be missed. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2013 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the choice of the donor.
