Martha Tanner Barbee's Obituary
Martha Tanner Barbee, 87, of Memphis, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at The Highlands of Memphis. Martha was born July 29, 1923, in Tupelo, MS to N.D. Tanner and Lille Belle Stults. She moved to Memphis as a younger woman where she met and married her husband, Paul G. Barbee. Together they had two daughters, Paulette and Pam. She was a devoted wife and mother and a very talented seamstress who delighted in sewing matching dresses for her daughters. As a grandmother, she took great pleasure in caring for her grandsons as preschoolers and enjoyed watching their school, scouting and artistic activities. She was a member of Audobon Park Baptist Church and previously was a member of Prescott Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Paulette Bukauskas, of Cordova; two grandsons, Jeffrey D. Bukauskas and Jeremy D. Bukauskas; as well as her brother, John T. Tanner of Memphis. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Kay Barbee at the age of six and by her husband Paul G. Barbee, who passed away after 39 years of marriage; her sister Maudie Lee Putt of Memphis, TN; and her brother, L.D. Tanner of Tupelo, MS.
