Mark Dougharty's Obituary
Mark L. Dougharty was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, on July 4th 1951, and passed away July 31st 2018 at the age of 67 at his home in Memphis, Tennessee. He passed in the presence of his wife of 45 years, Dianne, and his daughters Angela Porada and Kelly Anderson. He also leaves his sister, Marilyn White, brother, Kent Dougharty, son’s-in-law Mark Porada and Robert Anderson, and his seven grandchildren: Will(15), Annalise(14), Jake(12), Avery(11), Josh(9), Ainley(8), and Lila(6).Mark graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973. He began his career at New England Life Insurance in 1975 as an Agent/Supervisor and went on to hold the titles of Director, Regional Vice President, and finally the General Agent of the Memphis office by 1988. Mark received several awards during his time at New England including two Heritage Awards, a Ship’s Bell Award, and the President’s Trophy Nominee for top agency sales and recruiting. In October of 1996, Mark felt the call into ministry and resigned from the agency to pursue his call at Bellevue Baptist Church. Mark served on staff as the Minister of Missions/Education and Activities and went on to become the Executive Pastor where he faithfully served for eleven years.Mark enjoyed several hobbies including running, playing his guitar, and, as he would say, “playing at golf.” He enjoyed spending time with his family at the beach or on the lake, where he was an avid water skier. Mark was known by all as a prayer warrior. He spent enough time on his knees to wear out spots in the carpet of his home. He was faithful in his call as a husband, father, friend and follower of Christ. He was a man of God’s Word, and proclaimed it boldly, both with his voice and with his presence as his ability to speak diminished. He spent the final eleven years of his life as a faithful servant, in spite of his diagnosis, and used his time on this earth to pray vigilantly and to shine the light of Christ to all who saw him. We will forever be grateful for his life, his witness, and his legacy.Visitation will be Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Bellevue Baptist Church in the Special Occasions Room from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.The celebration of his life will be held Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Bellevue Baptist Church in the sanctuary at 2:30 p.m.He will lay in rest at Memorial Park Cemetery’s Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Secrets Savored, Inc.
