Marjorie Stewart's Obituary
Marjorie Scruggs Stewart, 89, of Memphis, TN, passed away on November 9, 2011. She was born on June 5, 1922 in Sherman, MS. Marjorie was a beautiful spirit with grace and charm, who lived as God’s special envoy. She was married to Rev. Charles E. Stewart, a United Methodist Minister for 68 years and she served well as a parsonage and church hostess. Mrs. Stewart graduated from Mississippi State College for Women in 1944, where she majored in English and Drama. In her earlier years she was active in several organizations. She was an excellent adult Sunday school teacher, and a member of district and Conference Minister’s Wives, Susannah’s groups, serving twice as district President and once as Conference President. Mrs. Stewart was active in the Memphis Story Tellers League, touring the city and telling stories, to many organizations. In addition to stories, also gave book reviews to clubs and church organizations. She was active in the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary League and served as Vice President. Marjorie had a great sense of humor and a great love for people. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Rev. Charles E. Stewart, a retired united Methodist Minister, and son, Charles, Jr. “Chuck” and his wife Mary, two daughters, Angie Forester (Burk) and Diana Nicholas (Justin) and a great granddaughter, Elaina Nicholas, and one great grandson Hudson Nicholas. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Friday November 11, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Colonial Park United Methodist Church, 5330 Park Ave. Memphis TN 38119.
