Marjorie Fletcher's Obituary
Marjorie Earl Rimer Fletcher, 88, of Memphis, retired kindergarten teacher, died Wednesday morning at Signature Healthcare at St. Peter Villa Nursing Home in Memphis, TN. She was born on October 9, 1924, in Helena, AR. Mrs. Fletcher was preceded in death by her parents, Herman A. Rimer and Minnie Lee Armstrong Rimer; by her stepmother, Ann C. Bailey; and by her husband of 68 years, John T. Fletcher, Jr. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery immediately afterward. As a charter member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, Mrs. Fletcher was the first pianist to provide musical accompaniment for the church services and Sunday School classes. She remained a faithful member of the congregation at St. Stephen for the following six decades, during which she served in a variety of roles for the church. She taught children, youth, and adults in Sunday School and was an active member of the United Methodist Women for many years. Mrs. Fletcher was a kindergarten teacher at St. Stephen United Methodist Church and retired from Graham Heights Academy. During her several decades of teaching kindergarten, she was thrilled by the opportunity to teach the children of some of her former students. Mrs. Fletcher was also a Girl Scout leader for a number of years, during which her daughters were Girl Scouts as well. Afterwards, she and her late husband continued to be committed supporters of Boy Scouts as well. In addition, Mrs. Fletcher enjoyed the personal contact with her many customers that accompanied her successful business as a sales representative for Avon Products, Inc. Mrs. Fletcher leaves two daughters, Carol Ann Fletcher McNeel (Tom) of Memphis and Barbara Ree Fletcher Nuckolls of Bolivar, TN; two sons, John Herman Fletcher (Elaine) of Nesbit, MS, and James Albert Fletcher (Sharon) of Cordova, TN; 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Stephen United Methodist Church or to the Girl Scouts of the United States of America.
