Marion L. Strom's Obituary
Marion Arata Strom, 85, died Wednesday December 18, 2013. Born in Memphis on September 8, 1928 to Robert and Carrie Arata, Marion was one of 12 children, 11 of whom survive her and are mourning the loss of their sister. As a young girl, Marion enjoyed playing sports at Treadwell High School, roller skating, and going to dances with her sisters. She worked her entire life. In earlier years, it was a retail store downtown; later a bank, and ultimately, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. For 38 years, Marion met with each parent and patient, making them feel loved and welcomed during their stressful transition into the hospital’s care. She would often take the younger patients home with her for the weekend if their parents were not able to visit. She was loved and admired by all. Marion’s one and only love and constant source of pride were her four children. She was a mother bear who fiercely fought for their welfare and well being. She was a best friend, loyal confidante, advisor and travel companion. She instilled in each one the importance of family. She enjoyed the company of her grandchildren, and recently her great-grandchildren, whom she loved so much. Left to carry on her legacy is son Wyatt Smith (Marcia) of Fayetteville, AR, and daughters Janet Smith Taylor, Gina Selby and Angela Moon, all of Memphis. The family will receive friends Friday, December 19 from 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, (901)767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”Location: Sunset Hill
