Marion Maddox's Obituary
Marion Edmond Maddox, 95, passed away at home on December 25, 2015. He was born in Cherry Valley, Arkansas, August 26, 1920, the son of Mrs. Emma Sue May Maddox and Mr. J. Kelly Maddox.His was predeceased by his two sisters, Verda May Maddox and Laura Sue Maddox Waters, and a brother, James Kelly Maddox.Marion earned a degree in Business and Banking at Arkansas State University. Marion came to Memphis in 1943 and began his career with Union Planters National Bank that later became Regions Bank, where he served as Vice-President in Correspondent Banking until his retirement in 2003.He married Virginia Nell Hornsby, on January 16, 1962, in Memphis, Tennessee. They had one child, Mary Maddox Droke.He was an avid hunter and loved to spend time in Arkansas and Tennessee hunting with his beloved wife of 53 years, Nell. He also enjoyed attending the Indianapolis 500 race for many years with his family.Marion is survived by his daughter, Mary (Steve) Droke; two much-adored granddaughters, Maddox (Maddie) Claire Droke and Sophie Reed Droke, and a stepdaughter, Jeannie Len Pinon. He was predeceased by twin granddaughters, Anna Callahan Droke and Emma Catherine Droke.A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, and the family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Hospital or St. Mary’s Episcopal School.
