Marion Louise Lindsay Bates' Obituary
On March 8, 2022, Marion Louise Lindsay Bates, at 82 years of age, passed away peacefully under the wonderful care of the staff at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, TN. Over the last four years, Marion, or “Nana” as everyone around Germantown knew her, had gracefully endured the gradual decline resulting from dementia. During her final weeks she was constantly visited by and surrounded with the love of her children and grandchildren – and during such time she kept her amazing sense of humor and playful nature. When her children were young, Marion was a homemaker, but once they were of a more independent age, she balanced working and managing the home. She worked in administrative assistant capacities at Sanlyn & Associates, Community Bank of Germantown, First Tennessee Bank, Olive Branch Intermediate School (“OBIS”), and also helped her husband in his CPA / law practice. Marion never met a stranger; was quick with a joke; and was the surrogate grandmother to hundreds of OBIS students and dozens more of her grandchildren’s friends. She relished in providing her grandchildren with treats and sundaes; and was known for saying “Kisses, Kisses” as she said goodbye to anyone. Her loving nature will be deeply missed.
Marion was born in Farfield, AL, to Marjorie and John Joseph Lindsay. She graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Auburn University. Marion is survived by her two children, Michelle Hoffman (Mike) and Michael Bates; four grandchildren, Lindsay Gibson (Marshall), Garrett Bates, Allie Bates, and Matthew Hoffman; a sister, Virginia Walker; a niece, Margie Adams (Stacy); and a nephew, John Walker (Nikki Jordan). You are invited to join them at Memorial Park for her visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday the 17th and the memorial service at 2:30 p.m. on the 18th.
