Marion Green Bolks' Obituary
Marion Green Bolks, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on November 9th, 2024.
Born in Paducah, Kentucky on October 16th, 1926, she was blessed with a long life and good health. She had a zest for living and cherished each day. She graduated from Tilghman High School in 1944. She received membership in the National Honor Society plus numerous sports awards. She was also active in other areas - music and theater. Marion attended Sophie Newcomb College for Women in New Orleans, Louisiana where she majored in art. She so loved her college days which also included being a Tulane cheerleader.
She married the love of her life, Richard Bolks, from Sioux City, Iowa. Her adult years were spent in many wonderful places making memories of a lifetime. She loved her church (Christ United Methodist in Memphis) and was a soprano soloist for 56 years giving many recitals. Music was a tremendous part of her life. She once had the opportunity to be in the chorus of the Opera, “La Traviata”. Her other primary interest was in the sports world with tennis. She began playing tennis at the age of 7 and was fortunate to continue playing into her 70’s. She particularly enjoyed tournament play and had countless trophies. Even into her late 80’s she enjoyed tubing with her husband behind her son’s boat! She later took up her art interests and studied under a fine teacher - Ross Myers of Tulsa. Although she was the Homecoming Queen in College, she managed to become Ms Senior Oklahoma in 2009. She was beautiful inside and out. Marion had a gift of developing lifelong friendships. She never met a stranger and connected with people in all walks of life. When someone had the privilege of meeting Marion, she left a mark on their heart and they could never forget her. She honored Jesus, her Savior, in every facet of her life.
Marion was blessed with three loving children - Sally Grace (John), Marilyn Curtis (Jack) and Garrett Bolks (Roxanne). She also was blessed with six grandchildren - Amy Jones, Jeff Tobin and Matthew Grace (Sally), Lauren Seamans (Marilyn), Ryan Bolks and Brianne Anderson (Garrett). Marion was also fortunate to have two great grandchildren - Shelby (Amy) and Caden (Lauren). Family was Marion’s top priority and she was absolutely the best role model anyone could ever ask for. She continues to live on through her three children and their offspring. Everything Marion did was done with grace, dignity, integrity and courage. She is the essence of love and anyone who knows her will understand this. Marion enjoyed so many happy reunions with family and many trips together throughout the US and Europe. Marion and Dick celebrated over 70 years of a blissful marriage together. She will be greatly missed.
Memorial gifts may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee
