Marilyn Talbot's Obituary
Miss Marilyn Talbot passed into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 8, 2023. She was 87 years old. Miss Talbot was born in Gladewater, Texas on December 27, 1935 to Eugene Holder Talbot and Beulah Vesta Webber Talbot. Marilyn spent her early years in Gladewater with her parents and two older brothers. The family moved to Keota, Oklahoma, and then on to Arlington, Kentucky, where Marilyn graduated high school. Miss Talbot attended Bethel College in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and went on to continue her education at Memphis State University where she earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education.
Miss Talbot was deeply committed to nurturing and educating children. She taught for over 30 years in Shelby County Schools. In addition, she volunteered for many years directing the newborn rooms at Bellevue Baptist Church. Known affectionately as “Sarge”, she was beloved by both the children and their parents. Marilyn loved music, and she sang in the Bellevue Choir for many years. Most recently she was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Eads, TN.
Marilyn was a gifted seamstress, artist and handcrafter. She loved heirloom sewing, smocking, tatting, crocheting and knitting. Her passion was making gowns and other items for the preemies in intensive care. She also volunteered at Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women, accruing more than 10,100 hours over the years.
Miss Talbot was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother Mason B. Talbot; and her two brothers, William Eugene Talbot and Otis Lee Talbot. She is survived by her sister-in-law Ethel J. Talbot of Conroe, TX; niece Carol Ann Talbot (Dr. A.J. Koska, III) and their daughter Kendra Elizabeth Koska of Corpus Christi, TX; great-nephew Chase Joseph Koska (Christie) and their daughter Greenleigh Jae Koska of Dallas, TX; niece Mary Elizabeth Talbot (Robert Slaughter) of Woodstock, GA; nephew Brian Eugene Talbot (Stacie) and their son Hunter of Oakton, VA; and nephew Kenneth Lee Talbot (Dawn) and their son Nash of Manassas, VA.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Hucie Gates for her selfless care and devotion to Miss Talbot over the past year; to Brent and Laurie Newton for their loving assistance and support; and to the many friends and neighbors who helped Marilyn in her last few years.
Visitation for Miss Talbot will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 3-5 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 11 AM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Marilyn’s name to Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, 2095 Appling Road, Cordova, TN 38016, Attn: Development Department; or to Crossroads Baptist Church, 125 Houston Levee Road, Eads, TN 38028; or to a charity of your choosing.
