After growing up& being a parent myself & watching the tireless sacrifices my wife more than me as a stay home mom & myself made I could appreciate the mother I had. She was room mom for us kids in elementary school & I remember her coming to read to my class. I don’t know how she found the time to do that & cook, make sure we were all bathed, homework done, had clean clothes , & most of all we all knew we were loved. She taught us all right from wrong & had us in church regularly . She always made Christmas & all holidays special for us. Thank you my mother for a job well done & I know God had a special place in Heaven waiting for you. I will never forget you & the sacrifices you made for me. Love always your son Ricky

Aunt Marie was fourth out of six children. My mother, Shirley, was sixth. Aunt Marie was much of a second mother to all of us cousins growing up.

My favorite memory of her goes back to the Summer of 1980. The movie "The Empire Strikes Back" was out in theaters and as a fourteen-year-old kid I did not yet have a driver's license. Aunt Marie was visiting our family in Germantown and sitting out by the pool one evening. I'd found a picture book of the movie at a nearby bookstore who had one copy. As an impatient teenager, I asked Mom to take me to get the book. She correctly told me we had company and she'd take me tomorrow. Aunt Marie saw my disappointment. She picked up her purse and said, "Come on, let's go." She took me to the bookstore, and I got the book that evening because of her.

I also remember her famous Deviled Eggs she brought to our family reunions every Fourth of July. Those are among my most cherished childhood memories with an all-day event with all the cousins.

Our longest relationships are our siblings. I am grateful and honored that I could call Marie Banks my sister for ninety-one years.

We grew up in the extreme poverty of the depression, but we had a loving mother who raised six children largely on her own. When I was in high school, Marie and Red lived in a garage apartment on Olive Street owned by Red's Mother. If I was having a bad day, I would go over to Marie's and visit. She was always there as reliable and steady support.

Marie and Red welcomed me and our mother to live with them in their home on Fizer. I lived with them until I got married in 1959 and our mother until her death in 1960.

As mentioned in Marie's obituary, Marie and our sisters Madeline and Sue were known as the ABCD sisters. Anderson, Banks, Cella, and Dixon. As our families grew, we often met and "the cousins" would spend holidays together. Our favorite was the Fourth of July family reunions at our home in Germantown.

Marie understood and valued family. I'm grateful to be called her sister and part of her family.
