Marie Talmadge Snider Banks' Obituary
Marie Talmadge Snider Banks, age 99, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026. Born April 27, 1927 in Paris, TN, Marie was one of 4 daughters of John and Mildred Snider. She was married to Harold Lloyd “Red” Banks, who preceded her in death. She devoted her life to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. Her greatest joy came from raising a houseful of five children and molding them into people of good character. Her home was filled with love, warmth, kindness, and helpfulness to others in times of need.
Marie had 2 brothers and 3 sisters…..the youngest sister, Shirley, is with us today. Marie and her sisters were women of deep faith and attended the Highland St. Church of Christ as young women. They would sit on the front row and as children came along, they spread to the front 2 rows. Everyone referred to them as the “ABCD” girls…….the letters standing for the first letter of their last names.
Marie and “Red” had a long and happy marriage which began when “Red” proposed to her at the City Playoff game at EH Crump stadium as soon as he returned from WWII. He did not have a job, but that did not stop Marie from marrying him. They eloped and were married in Hernando, MS. After the vows, they returned to Memphis and enjoyed a wedding night dinner at Leonard’s BBQ and then each returned to their separate homes, since their families were unaware of the wedding. Eventually, the family was told of their marriage and they began their life together. Together, they founded Banks Electric in 1975.
Marie is survived by her sister, Shirley, her 5 children: Deb…..married to the late Jim Brasfield, Hal Banks….married to Cathy; Ricky Banks….married to Cathy; Janie…..married to Jimmy Jones; and Michelle…..married to Tim Ungaro. Marie had 11 grandchildren: Halley, Bryan, Caitlin, Grayson, Magan, Shelbie, Madison, Wesley, Amanda, Hannah, and Nicole……and she had 14 great-grandchildren.
Above all else, Marie loved the time spent with her family. She was a devoted homemaker and a woman who loved the Lord. She was actively involved in church and made sure she and the children were present every time the doors were open. She had a giving heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need. Perhaps the greatest testament to her godly life was “Red” deciding to be baptized after years of watching Marie live out her quiet faith in front of him.
Marie had a great impact on her family and everyone who knew her. She was the epitome of the woman of noble character described in Proverbs 31.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the many expressions of love, prayers, and support during this time from so many friends. They would especially like to express their deepest admiration and gratitude for the extraordinary love and devotion shown to their mother by 4 very special people: April Butler, director of Hearthside Senior Living; Kristin Campbell….Marie’s nurse; and Dana Mitchell & Diane Bell. Dana and Diane gave unselfish, loving attention to Marie and consistently put in hours off the clock every week for the past 5 years. These 4 have the family’s deep gratitude and we are thankful for their compassionate care.
Marie’s life was a testament to faith, family, and kindness to others…..her memory will forever be a blessing to those who knew and loved her.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Where Memphis comes to remember, since 1924.
